[Vtigercrm-developers] Anyone else seeing issues with PDF Preview in vt7? [SCAN_OK]

Alan Lord (News)

We have a customer's installation where the Document preview option works for images but for PDF documents returns: > PDF.js v0.8.1269 (build: 10deadd) > Message: Unexpected server response (403) while retrieving PDF "https://my.customers.domain.net/storage/2017/August/week1/3781_Customer-Details-Form_PDF.pdf". Before I raise a bug can anyone else see if they are seeing this? We are on vt7.0.1. The previewer loads png images OK but can't seem to load any PDF records for preview. Issue happens in Document List view or from a Related List View of Documents. TIA Al _______________________________________________ http://www.vtiger.com/

There is a htaccess file inside the storage sever that denied (403) anything but  image file

You could add PDF to this htaccess, although that makes PDF files accessible from the internet to anyone that can guest the path

It's a trade off between not exposing your data and use the browser PDF preview

That is a poor solution.

So the PDF viewer is broken or you open up a security hole - lol.

I hope that this is not the answer of the vtiger devs...

The PDF Viewer is running inside the vtiger instance and should have
access to the current user to authenticate access to the relevant file
in the storage directory.

Chris Thompson

Why not just send the pdf file to the browser rather than preview?  This
would resolve this problem in the short term.

I don't think the PDF viewer has access to vtiger backend.

If I understand correctly, the PDF viewer is a browser feature that download the PDF and open it in a new tab

Or are you referring to something else?

If you look at a list of Documents and click the "..." on the left, an
option is called "File Preview".

This opens a modal jQuery dialog but it is not a new tab or window as
such... Presumably this is done via an Ajax call so it _is_ possible to
determine who the vtiger user is and if they are able to view the file.

I think ;-)

Hi Alan,

That button use PDF.js that parse the file from the server. I think you could add some token to the URL and use that token in the htaccess or something similar.

Another option is to replace the URL by the server path, not sure if the library allows this
